Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords Review
February 23, 2005 by Adam Gainer by Adam - February 23, 2005 In a time where a galaxy's future was uncertain, there was one last Jedi who had yet to choose his path, either for good or for evil. He would be the one who would control the future, every choice, every decision would make or break the fledgling Republic. You control this last Jedi in Knights of The Old Republic II: The Sith Lods. This game is the sequel to the successful Knights of the Old Republic: The Mandalorian Wars. Hokey superstitions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid. Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords is a RPG real time action game. Its plot picks up after the final war on Mandalore where Revan is still in control of the Sith fleet. The real time battle RPG is a dangerous ground to walk because it's susceptible to mapping flaws. However this game pulls off this effect rather well giving characters good control of their party. You can choose whether or not they will be aggressive or play back and snipe for you. Jedi team mates will use Jedi powers to aid your party in heated battle. However, sometimes your teammates will be prone to running into battles you don't want them engaged in. One other flaw is it seems that bosses are super powerful or weak. I had read several walkthroughs to aid myself through this and they all used the map flaw technique strategy to win. Other than this it was fun to play. The controls felt right at home and I felt like I had control of the whole game like a true Sith Lord. Stretch out with your feelings Luke, don't use your eyes for they will deceive you. This game was beautiful to play. Unfortunately the highest resolution the Xbox could use was 480dp. It was a glorius medium, everything looked crystal clear. Water flowed like liquid really would. Lightsabers had an extra tint of glow. The landscapes looked beautiful and unique to the Star Wars universe. Space looked real and there were slight differences in characters of the same alien race. Fire effects looked flowing and the space battles looked to be straight out of the movies. It was glorious to watch the CGI films as you exited and left a planet. The thing that excited me about this game is that it is in Dolby Digital(R) which rewards people who have sunk money into a good sourround sound system. The sounds seem authentic to the Star Wars films. Engine noises, blasters, and lightsabers seem to be just like the ones from the holy trilogy. The game's character voices all sound very authentic and unique. Space battles do engulf you as you use sound to track down your enemies. Stirke out with your feelings, let go of your hatred. Okay this game was fun to play but it did have some minor bugs which did annoy me from time to time. One time I was facing a boss and he killed me--I had just spawned and he killed me. Sometimes your characters will just go off by themselves and get into conflicts and die. It was fun to make different choices that influenced characters in your party. The addition of character influence was quite cool. Different conversation choices would make different characters do different things. You could choose to have a weird love relationship with two hot Jedi alien chicks, or you could go the stag route. This game was really fun to play--I played it through on both sides: Light and Dark. The differences between the two were unique and did change the game quite a bit; it made it easier to make different choices on both sides. The influence you have on your characters and the order you do planets is crucial to story development. It was really quite interesting to see the story told in a different way with each side. Eventually similarities would arise and it would be cool because either way you made the right choice. Your characters would follow you and help you to fight to the death for good or for evil. This game was a lot like the original. One really cool factor was the effect of being Dark side had to your character's appearance.
May the Force be with you. KOTOR 2 was a decent sequel to its predecessor. It was only made in a year; there was no need to rush a sequel as it was a game in demand for a while. There were a few bugs in the game but overall it was very fun to play. |
