Codemasters, makers of the excellent Race Driver series has come up to light with a new series to tackle, FUEL. FUEL takes place in the alternate present where the world was claimed by global warming and devestation across the lands...

Tuesday, 19th August 2008 – 10am UK – Set to revolutionise multi-terrain racing with the largest environment ever created in race gaming, Codemasters today announced signing the worldwide publishing rights to FUEL™ from Asobo Studios. Promising a truly next generation addition to the racing genre, FUEL is in development at Asobo Studios in Bordeaux, France, for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft®, Games For Windows® LIVE and due to release in 2009.

FUEL is set in an alternate present in which whole swathes of the globe have been ravaged by the effects of climate change brought on by decades of environmental abuse. Here oil prices have rocketed and yet a new breed of racing junkie takes to the wastelands, pitting their grungy home-tuned vehicles against each other in an all-new extreme sport as they compete to win fuel supplies. To triumph means travelling the wastelands to challenge the best; from the tsunami-wrecked pacific coast through the Nevada wastelands, including the Grand Canyon, up treacherous snow-capped mountains, thick forests, arid deserts, abandoned lakeside resorts and much more.

Fuel is scheduled to hit store shelves next year....

PC Gaming on the Up and Up
Category: Industry News | Posted on August 19, 2008 by Beau King

For some reason the next-gen phenomenon has been hailed by analysts as a console war. What these gurus of gaming fail to see however is another medium all but lost in the fanfare. PC Gaming, once a proud leader of the gaming realm, has somehow flipped upon its back and become an underdog. Many even doubt it's existence as a viable platform in the future. The PC Gaming Alliance (PCGA) would rather think differently.

In their bi-annual Horizons report the PCGA recorded revenues reaching $10.7 billion in the industry alone. Of which, $4.8 billion was obtained through Online PC gaming, $2 billion from digital distribution, and the rest a mix of advertising efforts and retail. It doesn't stop there however as the market is still growing; rapidly. Of the top 20 markets for PC gaming, only about a third had access to a broadband connection. Proof positive that the main driver of their business is far from tapped out.

Many would like to, if they have not already, count PC gaming as out. System requirements and setup costs may lead the debate, but not much longer as an 80GB PS3 and decent HDTV are far more expensive than an adept desktop. Soon that paperweight with a keyboard may be making a comeback.
