Mythos Preview
From the creators of Hellgate: London comes a brand-new MMORPG that is sure to tingle the senses of action RPG fans. There is a very clear influence of Diablo on the control scheme and view for this title, but it is also a proven formula for fun. Even this early in its development, Mythos has a wide variety of weapons and equipment for players to use. This game takes on the look of a sadistic Disney cartoon that definitely has a lot going for it. GamePlay Mythos plays like just about any other action RPG. Players must run into dungeons and kill hordes of enemies that will drop various types of loot. Of course you will have a variety of weapons with which to dispatch these enemies, a variety of equipment and the ability to customize your character. Mythos has the same style isometric view and control scheme as Diablo. This allows fans of the old game and newcomers, as well, to jump right into the game and not find themselves overwhelmed with a plethora of keyboard shortcuts to remember. At no point playing this game, did I find myself fumbling around with the controls. Much like other MMO's, the real drive for this game is getting items that are dropped from creatures. Creatures may drop a purple unidentified item or some other various color that will indicate the item has magical properties. This anticipation of bettering my character really helped to drive the game along. In addition to item drops, players can expect to see a variety of weapons that they can use in Mythos. During my time playing the beta, there was already guns, swords, knives, pikes, bows and a variety of other weapons that players could dual wield. There is nothing more fun than seeing a Disney looking character with horns creating a bloody mess with his dual pistols. The equipment, even this early in the release, was varied. There is nothing more redundant than having the same looking equipment, but with different colors. So far, it would appear that Flagship Studios has managed to avoid that redundancy with Mythos and have included dresses, coifs and various other styles of dress. Free to play? As of right now, Mythos plans on releasing this title as a free to play MMO. This could work out very well for this title, since it is already providing a level of gameplay that many would think is well worth the price of a subscription. Only time and the right moves on Flagship Studios part will determine whether or not this title will garner the proper monetary support from its players. Crazy Cartoons As I said before, Mythos looks like a game full of sadistic Disney characters. It may even be possible to say that they are all on crack. This look and feel is definitely extremely interesting. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing your character ,with his massive horns and mutton chops, slashing away at enemies. The character selection screen provides players with different races and classes to choose form. They are all your typical MMORPG races or classes, but they have a certain look to them that sets them apart. As I have said before, there is a feeling to the game that reminded me of many Disney movie fairy tale characters. This may sound really odd, but I found it to be very refreshing and somewhat humorous. Players can expect to see vibrant colors and great modeling of all the creatures and buildings in the game. As the game progresses, things can only get better in the graphics department. Flagship has done a great job of tying the graphics into the cartoonish style of humor and gameplay that really helps make this game unique. Conclusion Flagship Studios may have caught flack for its problems with their last title, Hellgate: London, but this time around they can't go wrong with something they are giving away for free. The free to play model for MMO's will only become more prevalent as companies try to compete with World of Warcraft. Hopefully, Mythos will be able to target the audience that has been looking for a new action RPG to take up their precious time.
