NinjaTrick Preview
June 23, 2009 by Ryan Lodata
The world of browser-based gaming has a new challenger from the folks at CyberAgent America titled Ninja Trick. NinjaTrick has players assuming the role of their online avatar as they hunt for gems and take on other players. So, what can players expect when the game is released later this year?

To Trap or Not to Trap

NinjaTrick’s gameplay comes down to two main methods of approach. The first approach involves finding all seven gems located through the map. Second, players can mercilessly attack the other players with their magic, melee attacks or even traps to acquire gems. Ultimately, your end goal is to collect as many gems as possible in any manner befitting the situation.

Through each map, which is arranged in a grid pattern, you must go room to room and search for gems that are hidden behind various objects. Searching for the gems is as easy as clicking on each object in the room. The objects range from a portrait hanging on the wall to a lamp placed in the corner. Once clicked on, the object will move and reveal a gem or nothing at all. Once you acquire these gems, you can choose to run away from your foes or knock them out and grab their dropped gems in an attempt to collect all seven.

There are several methods that gamers can use to knock out their opponents and steal their gems. A personal favorite is setting traps and waiting for them to be tripped by the other players. Door bombs, spikes and more are available to players that they can place in various areas of the map or even in the objects that gamers must search to find gems. Players can also outright attack their opponents using Fire, Ice, Wind or Lightning attacks which they specifically choose during the character creation phase. Each style can be best described as mage, archer, tank etc. commonly seen in RPGs. Once defeated, your opponent will scatter gems in random nearby objects where you must collect them.

Customize Away

NinjaTrick, so far, has a pretty impressive list of customizable aspects for characters. Hair styles, sunglasses, scarves and more are all available in the beta with many more to be added later. The customizations will be available for purchase once the game is released and expect to purchase them through micro transactions.

Rank Up

NinjaTrick also features a ranking system that enables players to see how they stack up against their fellow players. The ranking system is very similar to Chess in that players start at 1500 and move either up or down depending on their performance while playing.

What’s Next?

According to the NinjaTrick team, there will be an extensive list of features that are to be released. Gamers can expect to see, in addition to the customizable items of clothing and weapons, leveling of their character and additional item slots for their character. This may entice the gamers who are all about the slight edge when they play online, but should not push them beyond the scope of those who play for free.

Conclusion

Ultimately, NinjaTrick has a lot to offer gamers. Whether you are playing from your browser or within Facebook, you can expect to see an assortment of customizable options and addictive gameplay when the game is finally released. No release date has been given yet, but this is one game that is worth trying out.
