Nintendo Download: Fun Keeps Popping Up
Nintendo Wii | August 17, 2009 5:37 am

Slot cars, Sudoku and Ninjutsu populate this week's Nintendo Download. Two new Wii Ware titles with one Virtual Console title and 2 new DSi Ware titles. A pretty packed week this week if you manage to have some Wii points lying around.

WiiWare

PictureBook Games: Pop-Up Pursuit
Publisher: Nintendo
Players: 1-4
ESRB Rating: E (Everyone)
Price: 800 Wii Points
Description: Enter the world of PictureBook Games: Pop-Up Pursuit and enjoy a family board game set in a pop-up picture book. Instead of simply rolling dice to move along the map, you’ll use cards (which can help or hinder progress) and coins (useful for buying more cards, but don’t forget about your Coin Bonus at the end of the game). Spaces on the map play an important role in the game’s outcome, and your computer-controlled opponents exhibit different personalities and behavior. Occasionally, the mysterious Book of Magick will be opened, causing an event that may change according to how you play. This mixture of exciting game play and charming, artistic atmosphere give Pop-Up Pursuit high replay value and unique depth—even if its characters are flat.

Family Slot Car Racing
Publisher: Aksys Games
Players: 1-2
ESRB Rating: E (Everyone)
Price: 500 Wii Points
Description: Daddy, Mommy, Sarah and Billy are putting the pedal to the metal in Family Slot Car Racing. Race through three racing circuits, each composed of multiple racetracks and even bonus tracks. You can race against a friend for some friendly one-on-one racing action. Choose among multiple slot cars with varying designs to see which car has the best grip and speed. As you progress, you’ll unlock new courses and even new slot cars to help you reach the top of the racing circuit. Do you have it in you to be the fastest racer on four wheels?

Wii Sports Resort Sells Over 500,000 Units in 8 days
Nintendo Wii | August 5, 2009 7:13 pm

In what should be a surprise to no one, Wii Sports Resort has sold amazingly well, getting over 500,000 units shifted in its opening month. The game comes bundled with 12 mini-games showcasing the power of the (also included) Wii Motion Plus.

“Through Monday we sold one copy of Wii Sports Resort roughly every 1.5 seconds continuously since it launched in the United States,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “This tells us consumers were eagerly waiting to get their hands on these fun activities, and it’s a great start for a game that will have long-lasting appeal.”

Selling a copy of Wii Sports Resort roughly every 1.5 seconds in North America alone? Nintendo will certainly be catching up in sales with the 45 million units Wii Sports sold when it launched. The game sold this well according to the dates of July 26th to August 3rd.

Grease Coming to Wii?
Nintendo Wii | July 1, 2009 3:23 pm

In what is probably the weirdest announcement so far today, 505 Games will apparently be developing the movie Grease into a video game for the Nintendo Wii and DS.

The Grease video game will allow players to sing and dance alongside Danny, Sandy, The Pink Ladies and the T-Birds. The game will take full advantage of the Nintendo Wii’s motion-sensing controls and microphone, and the DS’s touch screen to create exciting gameplay for casual and family gamers eager to experience Grease in a new medium.

The game is being co-published by 505 Games and Paramount Digital Entertainment. Who seriously came up with this idea? Need further proof? Check out the news report on Gamespot.
