Nintendo Download: Zombies!
Nintendo Wii | October 26, 2009 8:40 am

Nintendo this week decided to spice itself up for Halloween this coming Saturday. Although Castlevania: Rebirth isn't hitting the Virtual Console this week, you at least have something else to play through in the mean time.

WiiWare

  • Ghost Mansion Party (Gameloft, 1-4 players, 1,000 Wii Points):
  • Tales of Monkey Island: Chapter 3: Lair of the Leviathan (Telltale, 1 player, 1,000 Wii Points):

Virtual Console

  • Zombies Ate My Neighbors (SNES, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points):
  • Golden Axe (Arcade, 1-2 players, 900 Wii Points)

DSiWare

  • PictureBook Games: The Royal Bluff (Nintendo, 1-4 players, 500 DSi Points):
  • SUDOKU (EA, 1 player, 200 Wii Points):

Quite a big list this week, so there should be something for everyone!

Dead Space Extraction Sells Under 9,000 Units
Nintendo Wii | October 21, 2009 7:39 pm

The Wii-exclusive first-person horror shooter, Dead Space: Extraction has unfortunately sold under 9,000 units from its release in September. The game was developed by Visceral Games and was released on September 29th. The month that was tracked in sales was between September 29th and October 3rd according to the NPD. Jesse Divnich, analyst from EEDAR gave a quick comment to Next-Gen.biz.

“Electronic Arts didn’t market Dead Space Extraction as much as it does with other titles. And the success or failure of a Wii title usually correlates directly to marketing spend. If Electronic Arts spent little on marketing, I am sure the sell through was no surprise to them. So I do not believe sell through was a disappointment to EA.”

So, what will happen to the studio? Having only 9,000 units sold in one month is pretty depressing comapred to other Wii exclusive titles. Obviously the game wasn't marketed well enough as the previous installment of the original Dead Space. EA was contacted by Next-Gen.biz but recieved no response back yet.

Nintendo Download: Lost Winds 2!
Nintendo Wii | October 19, 2009 8:09 am

If you loved the first Lost Winds like I did then you'll be happy to know, that its sequel, Lost Winds: Winter of Melodias has officially hit Wii Ware this morning. Surprising the DSi also gets 3 new games that have come out of no where. We also get only one Virtual Console release this week.

WiiWare

  • LostWinds: Winter of the Melodias (Frontier, 1 player, 1,000 Wii Points): Toku and Enril are back, to rescue Toku's mother Magdi and the entire Melodia civilization by jumping and blowing wind at things. This time, they can change the seasons from summer to winter, giving all of their enemies colds in the process.
  • Shootanto: Evolutionary Mayhem (Hudson, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points): Throw away all your other games about monkeys evolving into modern humans as they throw rocks at lizardmen, because Shootanto is here. If you could hit a dinosaur or a monstrous Venus fly trap with those games, that would be great.

Virtual Console

  • Rygar (Arcade, 1-2 players, 600 Wii Points): Tecmo's deadest, most shirtless hero is back in his original adventure. This is long before that weird makeover with the feathered white hair. This is Rygar as you remember it, unless you played the NES game the most, in which case you'll find this version nicer-looking and much more linear.

DSiWare

  • Crash-Course Domo, Hard-Hat Domo, Pro-Putt Domo, Rock-n-Roll Domo, White-Water Domo (Nintendo, 1 player, 200 DSi Points each): Domo-kun embarks on bicycle-riding, construction, golfing, musical, and kayaking adventures. All are pretty much guaranteed to be more inexplicably adorable then usual with the addition of a friendly monster with a gaping, rectangular mouth.

That's it for the Nintendo Download this week, don't forget to check out other releases on the Nintendo Shop channel.

Wii Play Becomes Top Selling Title Of the Decade
Nintendo Wii | October 13, 2009 11:07 pm

According to Nintendo today, the release of Wii Play which combines all sorts of new family games has sold 11.1 million copies since launch. The game comes bundled with a free Wii controller and has been noted as being another Wii Sports brother in the vein of showing off Nintendo's Wii remote.

Back in May, Nintendo revealed that Wii Sports could be one of the best selling titles in America as well clocking in at 45 million copies sold. That would put it ahead of Super Mario Bros which has held the top spot for years. The list then held Wii Sports holding at 45.7 million which included the game bundled with the Nintendo Wii console.

By this mark, both Wii Sports and Wii Play could become the most top selling video games of all time outdoing Super Mario Bros by a long shot. With the release of Wii Sports Resort already upon us, it would be no surprise if we were to hear of Wii Sports Resort catching up to the others.

Wii System 4.2 Update Now Available
Nintendo Wii | September 29, 2009 7:28 am

Joystiq noticed that the new system update for the Nintendo Wii has officially gone live for download. You can expect to see or not see "behind the scenes" fixes and tweaks to increase overall system performance.

So, the update doesn't actually do anything special as much as we'd like it too. It would be nice if Nintendo surprised us every once in a while with something new for our Wii's.

Capcom has officially revealed the new Darkside Chronicles boxart, the sequel to Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles.

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles‘s story is based on Resident Evil 2 and includes the popular characters, Leon S Kenney and Claire Redfield. Its on-rails style gameplay and active camera will create a more immersive “Chronicles” survival experience. As in the last installment, this is a first-person game with extreme shooting gameplay and interactive pathways. Filling in many of the missing pieces of storyline that were not covered in the original “Umbrella Chronicles”, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles will give hardcore fans the chance to re-live some of the most classic moments of the Resident Evil franchise, while allowing new players to take advantage of the intense action-horror experience only possible on the Wii.
