Stardock Entertainment has announced that the micro-expansion for Sins of a Solar Empire, Entrenchment, is now available for download on Impulse. The add-on can be purchased for $9.95 at www.impulsedriven.com.
Entrenchment adds new starbases, defense upgrades, a new defense technology tree, mine files and general fixes to gameplay and graphics.
“We’re excited to release the first follow up to 2008’s strategy game of the year,” said Stardock CEO and President Brad Wardell. “After careful planning and implementation, we’re confident that Entrenchment brings the concept of updates and expansions to a new echelon for PC gaming as well as create an even more thrilling Sins of a Solar Empire experience.”
This micro-expansion is only one of several that Ironclad plans to produce for Sins over the next year with the next one focusing on diplomacy.

Id Software's Quake Live, a browser-based first-person shooter, has entered into open beta on the official website. There already seems to be an overwhelming popularity with the game as any gamer who has attempted to play will find out for themselves. At the time of posting, there are over 8,000 people waiting in line to play and an untold number who are already taking part in the open beta. We are still waiting on the initial number of players who are taking part in the beta, but will let you know as soon as we hear something.
According to the Quake Live Twitter account, over 113,000 accounts have been created within six hours. They have also stated that they are attempting to keep up with demand and started several new servers overnight.
Joymax, independent developer and publisher of Silkroad Online, has announced that Silkroad Online is nearing completion and will soon be ready for a worldwide launch. The update features new weapons, armor sets, quests and high-level abilities for both races. The dungeon will be open to players at level 70 or above and will contain six floors and 50 new monsters.

Square Enix today announced that the PC version of The Last Remnant will be available for purchase on Valve's digital distribution platform, Steam. The game will be on the service starting on April 9th.

More publishers putting their games on Steam is always a good thing. Hopefully Square will continue to support the service.
Atlus recently announced their Atlus Online division, a community hub where Atlus fans can converge and discuss their favorite games. Along with that announcement came the revelation that Atlus Online members would be privy to a beta of Atlus Online's first MMO. Enter Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent, developed by JoyImpact and published by Atlus Online. Details are scarce but Gamasutra's interview with Atlus Online's head of operations, Jamie Ortiz, sheds some light on the matter.
Today on their blog, SEGA continues its "Empire: Total War Friday" tradition and has released new details on the latest faction to be included in Empire: Total War, the Maratha Empire. Also, if you haven't heard already, the demo is now available on Steam.
The browser run first-person shooter from Id Software, Quake Live, will be heading toward open beta on the 24th of February. In a post on the official Quake Live website, Id Software has oh so subtly mentioned that the game will be open for beta testing by the masses. No additional details were given, but this may be something worth checking out.

The latest game in the Total War series from The Creative Assembly, Empire: Total War, is now available for download on Steam.
The full game is expected to launch to Steam and retail in early March. The demo, however, allows players to "take on the American Army and the French Navy from The Creative Assembly's own "home" side, playing as the British Empire in the "Battle of Brandywine Creek" and the "Battle of Lagos."
Also, if you pre-purchase Empire: Total War on Steam, you will receive Rome Total War Gold Edition for immediate download.
NDOORS Interactive has announced that they will be releasing a rather large update for their strategic turn-based MMORPG, Atlantica Online. The update adds several new features, including two new main character classes – Musician and Maniac.
The majority of the content will be accessible to all players immediately, while some of the new features will only be available to players who have reached level 100.
