Ultima Online: Mondain\'s Legacy
Posted December 31, 1969 by Jonathan Corey
With a new playable race, quest engine,
nine new dungeons, fourteen new creatures and over 100 new craftable
items, Ultima Online is revamping to appeal to a new generation of
gamers.
In a Townhall meeting in Washington D.C. on June 2, the Ultima Online
developers announced Mondain's Legacy, the seventh expansion for one of
the longest running MMORPGs, Ultima Online. Ultima Online began in
1997, one of very few games of its type. UO, in its early days, helped
to define the MMORPG as we know it. Now, with the announcement of
Mondain's Legacy, Ultima Online is receiving tons of new content to
engage players for years to come.
The chief feature of the expansion is the addition of the Elves, a new
playable race. The Elves have a deep history in all of the single
player Ultima games and are a welcome addition to the online world.
With the Elven race comes the city of Heartwood. This city is home to
the Elves and also the source of many of the hundreds of new quests
being added to the game. Many of these quests will send adventurers
into dungeons to retrieve items or kill certain creatures, however many
quests also exist for the crafters of UO. These quests will reward
powerful new crafting recipes that will allow crafters to make powerful
new items.
Along with the expansion comes a new skill, Spellweaving. The
Spellweaving skill allows groups of 2-5 players to pool their magic to
cast powerful new spells, many of which will be AoE. Mondain's Legacy
also promises the introduction of "Peerless Monsters", the most
difficult enemies ever put into UO.
With a release date of August 30, UO:Mondain's Legacy will be a completely digital release. Account codes will be available at
uomlstore.com on August 1. The game client is available now, with a 15 day free trial,
here.
