CES 2005: Pre-Show Photo Summary
Posted December 31, 1969 by Tim Bradshaw

On Wednesday the GamePlasma crew arrived at Las Vegas' McCarran International Airport. After settling into our hotel room we proceeded to check out the show being set up and then attended a press conference at the Hilton that evening.

Our plane arrived in Las Vegas, Nevada at around 3:00AM Eastern Time, which is Midnight local time. As soon as we got off the plane we were bombarded with rows and rows of slot machines in the airport terminal. Suffering from a little jet lag and turbulence on the flight, we decided to head directly to our hotel.

When we got to our hotel, we set up a work-station so that we could keep you updated on the happenings here at CES 2005. It isn't much, but it gets the job done. Writing all these articles kept us pretty busy, along with highly competitive matches of Madden NFL 2005 between the Sony Consoles Editor (Brian Callam) and myself. Who needs a big trailer anyways?

After we got our makeshift office set up we decided to go check out the Las Vegas Convention Center, where the show is being held. We got to see behind-the-scenes of all the work put into setting up a convention in a 3,000,000+ square foot building.

"I think we took a wrong turn..."

Towards the end of the day, after a random nap in the Riviera's food court, we ended up at the Hilton to stand in line for two hours to see Bill Gates.

The wait was extremely long...

What was it we were waiting for again?

After finally getting into the Hilton Theater, where the keynote address was made, Bill Gates was first introduced by CEA's President, Gary Shapiro. He was then introduced by Late Night's Conan O'Brien.

Bill Gates, Chairman and Chief Software Architect of Microsoft was finally introduced with a warm welcome from the audience. Although most of the audience didn't catch Conan's jokes, Gates seemed to get a kick out of it. Introducing many new products coming in the near future, Gates also showed off Forza MotorSport, a new title coming to Xbox this spring. Contrary to rumors, the highly-anticipated Xbox 2 was not revealed.

Who ever said a multi-billionaire can't have fun playing video games?

After the keynote address, the GamePlasma team was exhausted and went back to our hotel. Check out our CES 2005 page here.
