College vs. Home: The Eternal Battle
Posted December 31, 1969 by Scott Parrino
Having been to college for my freshman
year and now back at home, I can clearly see the differences between
the two points that I have commonly referred to as ?home?. While there
are some plusses and negatives to each side, I believe there is no real
winner. That is why I have called this the Eternal Battle. No matter
how to look at it, both are good and bad in more ways than one. Some of
those who will read this most likely have been through college and
laugh. Others who are in college will understand. Then there are those
who haven?t been to college. Don?t be afraid of going away to college,
it?s a real trip. When I was writing this, I did this on the situation
that you live at school and not stay at home.
At home, you have your own room with all your stuff you want on
shelves, in your closet, etc. At college, you most likely share with a
stranger that you get to know, or a best friend, and since the room is
so small, you have ? of your junk squeezed around the place.
?In college the ?weekend? starts on a Thursday. At home, your weekend starts when you are done with work or when Saturday comes. ?You sleep no more than five feet away from your roommate in college whilst you have your own bed at home. ?Food is readily accessible at college through meal plans with pre-planned breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. At home, you have to do it yourself or buy it. ?Every weekend at college there is a party. Parties at home are few and far between. ?In college if you get a new computer game, automatically its common courtesy to make copies of it for your friends. ?Any multiplayer game you have will instantly get you more friends then you can possibly believe at college. ?At home you have invite friends over to play video games. At college you just knock on their door as they are down the hall. ?At home you don?t have to lock your bedroom door when you leave to go to the bathroom, get something to eat, or even hang outside. ?At college, the louder the music is, it better be good and have good sound. At home your mom yells at you. ?In college, you can wake up, put on a t-shirt, brush your teeth, and grab your books and go to class. At home you have to get dressed. ?Sitting around in the dorm the whole day in your PJs is not only encouraged, but spreads like a disease. ?At home you have your car while at college your car barely moves as it has a great parking spot. ?At college there is no such thing as curfew from your parents or need to check in. ?In college you learn terms like ?No pride night?, ?Beer goggles?, "Chasers", "Century Club",and ?Zombie day? (aka Monday). ?At home you have time to mow the lawn, clean the house, etc while at college you don?t have to do anything. ?College Greek Life. No explanation necessary. ?Your friends at home can?t wait till you come home from college to hang out. ? At college your friends at home can?t wait to come to you and party. ?Your cellphone at college never leaves its docking charger. ?At home you have to share a computer or the connection. At college you have constant connection that varies in speed. ?Your Internet connection at home is dependable, while at college a server going down once a day is normal. ?At home you have annoying sisters and brothers; at college, you have neighbors. ?Finally, at home you don?t have to wear sandals and carry your shower stuff to the bathroom. Well give or take, that?s some of the pluses and negatives. When I return for fall semester, guaranteed there will be more, as I will be living in the frat house. This is essentially a preview to ?Gaming in College? article I will be writing when I enter my fall semester. For now, I hope you enjoyed this bulleted information and look forward to my other articles that will be coming up. Till next time, happy gaming! |
