Soft Kinetics Unveils New Technology
Posted February 19, 2008 by Jeffery Collins
In the past decade, many inventions have made a big impact on the gaming industry. The motion sensor, as implemented in the Wii, is already changing how games are created and played. Today at the Game Developers Conference Soft Kinetics unveiled a new technology they say will be as revolutionary as the Wiimote, the 3D Gesture Recognition Solution.
Iisu, as it is called, has been in development for 4 years and is finally complete. The 3D gesture recognition middleware allows for players to be the controllers as a depth sensing camera captures full body movements and filters out nonessential objects. If this software delivers the idea well, then this will allow more motion possibilities than the Wiimote and also force players to do full motions. We will have to wait and see if this software lives up to the hype.
