April in Review
Posted December 31, 1969 by Scott Parrino
Just nine days til E3!
I’m sure some readers want to know what goes into writing these "in
reviews". A majority of the time I am doing it on the last day of the
month at night. I do this because it allows me to encompass pretty much
the whole month down to the final hours. Of course if I’m not going to
be around I will do it early but generally I have the time to do on the
last day. While writing I usually go over a list of what I thought was
good about the month and sometimes I’ll free write some bits for
filler. Another interesting thing you guys should know is that I am
always listening to some sort of music, generally something upbeat and
generally it’s Queen. Nothing more fun than writing this up while
listening to Don’t Stop Me Now.
Now onto April. As usual here in Illinois, it rained and it would get
ugly. Not exactly my favorite month since it is the last month of
classes before being shoved into a vicious period known as finals.
I absolutely dread finals because being a History major means my nose
in books and reading and reading and reading and more reading. The
problem is that when I’m not reading, I’m not playing games. This was a
problem until last year when I received a GBA for an anniversary
present from my girlfriend (god bless her) and since then I keep it in
my backpack when I hit the library or for those boring classes. I was
just kidding on the last part, I don’t have any large lecture classes
where I can pull that off.
The month of April for GamePlasma was the usual. Games were reviewed and previewed, we received hardware and we wrote some articles. While usually a tough month for the majority of the staff since we are in school, we manage to get the job done to make sure readers like you get the latest news, reviews and entertainment you deserve. Tomorrow will be May 1st. Then a little over a week after that will be our second trip out to Los Angeles for Electronic Entertainment Expo, known just as E3. This year will be a slightly different staff, which is great since you guys will see some unique articles presented in their writing style. I’m sure a lot of you are looking forward to Matt Wetsel’s comedic touch to articles and Kenneth Seward’s detailed and unique approach to writing. To those who haven’t experienced E3 firsthand, it isn’t all about fun and games. Journalists like us work hard to cover as much we can and get the skinny on upcoming games and products. Last year we would be up into the late hours working on articles and get little sleep. What you saw last year on our E3 page represented the work of less than 10 people within a week. After getting back home I didn’t think I had the strength nor the will to touch a videogame; I was gamed-out. This year will be no different. We have the experience, the will and deep down inside, the need to write and report what the writers want to know. The same will go down for next year, the year after that and so on. Stick around in the next few days to keep an eye out for our trip to LA. Once we’re there, stay glued to your monitor because I guarantee we’ll be pumping out articles like no tomorrow.
