Internet Poll for Immortality Drive Results
Posted October 9, 2008 by Ryan Lodata

How should our civilization be remembered? That is the question that was presented to players of the MMO Tabula Rasa. The vote is part of a project that will have Tabula Rasa designer Richard Garriott taking an "Immortality Drive" into space.

Poll results after the jump.

The poll results, including top 10 listings in each category, can be viewed at OperationImmortality.com. The results show a wide range of interests and opinions from the thousands of people who voted on humanity's greatest achievements during the last two months. Among the results:

  • Greatest Medical Breakthrough of All Time - Penicillin
  • Greatest Poet of All Time - William Shakespeare
  • Funniest Comedian of All Time - George Carlin
  • Earth's Greatest Social Movement - American Civil Rights Movement
  • Greatest Tech Breakthrough of All Time - The Internet
  • Greatest Song of All Time - Led Zeppelin/Stairway to Heaven
  • Greatest Band/Musical Artist - The Beatles

Also being stored on the "Immortality Drive" is in-game character information from players of Tabula Rasa, Garriott's latest sci-fi massively multiplayer game from NCsoft®. In addition visitors to the Operation Immortality site left personal messages to send on the digital time capsule.

And over the last few weeks, several celebrities have agreed to send their digitized DNA to the space station in an effort to "save humanity" in case a future catastrophe should befall Earth. Among those who will be enjoying the digital "ride" to space are Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert from The Colbert Report, famed physicist and author Stephen Hawking, music legends Joe Ely and Eric Johnson and American Gladiator Matt Morgan.
