Nintendo DSi to be Region Locked
Posted October 6, 2008 by Jereme Puik

This brings a sad face to import gamers everywhere and even to my own. Nintendo has confirmed today that the Nintendo DSi which will be releasing in Japan in November and North America/Canada later next year will be region locked.

Nintendo told our sister site Eurogamer.net this afternoon that the DSi is region locked "because DSi embeds net communication functionality within itself and we are intending to provide net services specifically tailored for each region".

The company added: "Also because we are including parental control functionality for Nintendo DSi and each region has its unique age limit made by different independent bodies."

Nintendo wants only country-specific software to work on the regiona locked DSi's. As we look at this....what have we left with the DSi now?

- Shorter Battery life

- Removed GBA Slot

- Region Locked Software
