Capcom Says "Wii Fans Will Be Very Happy Very Soon"
Nintendo Wii | March 6, 2009 6:19 pm

With Resident Evil 5 launching for both the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 later this month, Wii fans might feel as if they're being left out in the cold. Here to hopefully cheer those people up is Capcom's Associate Product Marketing Manager, Matt Dalhgren. In an interview with a Joystiq correspondent, Matt had the following to say:

It was made for the Xbox 360 and PS3. That being said, Nintendo Wii fans will be very happy very soon.

The popular rumor going around is that Capcom is alluding to a Resident Evil 2 Remake similar to the one they did for the first Resident Evil. This is all fan speculation but one has to wonder if there's any truth to the rumors.

Your Wiikly alert
Nintendo Wii | March 2, 2009 6:17 am

Nintendo seems to have calmed down on the virtual releases this week. Only two games make the cut on the servers this morning. Family & Friends Party and for your Virtual Console, Ogre battle The March of the Black Queen.

Wii Ware

Family & Friends Party (Gammick Entertainment, 1-8 players, Rated E for Everyone, 1,000 Wii Points): Have fun with all your friends and family as you take on some very exciting challenges. This is an interactive board game for as many as eight players of all ages. The goal is to be the first to complete a series of challenges. During each turn, a challenge will be played by one or two players per team depending on the type of challenge you’ve been given. (Other players on your team can still help and support you). There are six different “Single” challenges that must be played cooperatively by members of the same team. Family & Friends Party can also suggest “Versus” challenges, which must be played competitively by all teams at the same time.

Virtual Console

Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen (Super NES, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 800 Wii Points): It’s up to you to defeat the Empire. It’s been nearly a quarter of a century since the Zetegenian Empire first conquered the Kingdoms of Zenobia with a wrath of fear and bloodshed. You are the leader of a band of rebels who’ve fought to preserve the last shred of honor in this desperate time of treachery. Manage the ranks of a full-blown rebel army, complete with hundreds of characters, magic items, weapons and mystical Tarot cards. You must succeed in ousting the evil usurpers—your fate, and that of the entire population, depends on it.

Final Fantasy IV Sequel Coming to USA and Wii
Nintendo Wii | February 27, 2009 7:44 am

Square Enix recently registered a trademark for "The After Years" both in Europe and America. Because the trademark admittedly sounded like a suitable international subtitle for Final Fantasy IV: The After, a mobile phone sequel to Final Fantasy IV which was previously Japan-exclusive, fan speculation went rampant. Today brought us confirmation in the form of an ESRB rating for Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. The rating also reveals that the game will be coming out for Wii. Whether that means a downloadable WiiWare title or a retail disc, we do not yet know.

Nintendo Wiikly: 3 Virtual Console Games??!?!
Nintendo Wii | February 23, 2009 9:05 am

It's a strange day in paradise when you see Nintendo releasing 3 Virtual Console games at once along side a Wii Ware game to wrap up this Monday. However, looking at the list of virtual console games made available this morning are all from the infamous Commodore 64. Still though, the one Wii Ware title does look interesting, all for you to decide of course.

Onslaught (Hudson Entertainment, 1-4 players, Rated T for Teen—Animated Blood, Violence, 1,000 Wii Points): Onslaught is an FPS that puts you in the middle of a futuristic war between humans and insectoid aliens. Become part of the Elite Interstellar Strike Force and fight against an overwhelming onslaught of alien life forms. Enjoy the rush of mowing down wave after wave of aliens with machine guns, grenades and more. Feel your heart pound as you battle gigantic boss aliens. Beyond the normal game, Onslaught includes additional modes that let you play with rivals from around the world using Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Team up with as many as three other players in Free Battle mode, or compete on special maps to see who can get the most points by killing enemies before time runs out in Ranking Battle mode. (Router and broadband access required for online play. For more info, go to www.nintendo.com.)

Seems like Hudson Entertainment is really taking advantage of this Wii Ware service with all their releases recently. There are certainly more developers out there for Wii Ware, right?

Check out the Commodore 64 announcements below.,.

Disney Interactive Publishing 'SPECTROBES: ORIGINS'
Nintendo Wii | February 20, 2009 7:49 am

A new sci-fi Wii exclusive action-adventure hitting the shelves apparently based off a Spectrobes series, as far as the eye can see. The game will be released in Autumn 2009, hopefully taking advantage of the Wii's hardware and not some cash-in, one can only hope Disney.

Spectrobes: Origins brings the successful series to the Wii with a new story that reveals secrets from the past through flashbacks of significant events. In Spectrobes: Origins, players will use the unique Wii controls to explore vast worlds, excavate three-dimensional fossils and unravel an engaging story while discovering the key to preventing a galactic threat. While immersed in the universe as never before, players will fight enemies in large-scale, action-packed battles in real time.

“The popularity and creativity of the Wii platform make it the perfect stage for this exciting evolution of the Spectrobes franchise,” said Craig Relyea, senior vice president of global marketing, Disney Interactive Studios. “Spectrobes: Origins delivers the immersive storytelling, dynamic action and memorable characters that audiences have come to expect of Disney entertainment.”

On The Wii Update This Week
Nintendo Wii | February 16, 2009 7:03 am

Does Nintendo have something to hide? Do they know something we don't know? It is a strange day when Nintendo starts the week off with a riddle, what could they possibly be planning?

In other news, the Wii-kly Update has a fun surprise coming soon for all our fans. We can’t tell you the secret just yet but maybe we’ll offer you some hidden clues. From AZ to NC, if you’re a fan, your applause could rattle your walls, windows, door. You might enjoy this news whether you live in a brick house or Vanderbilt dorm. Even people living along Route 286 in rural Pennsylvania ought to be excited. It’ll feel like a bunch of birthday greetings and, really, who could ask for more? But that’s about all we can say for now, so be sure to check future Wii-kly Updates.

Here is your Wii Ware title for the week....

Evasive Space (Yukes Company of America, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone – Mild Fantasy Violence, 1,000 Wii Points): Launch a one-of-a-kind mission to rescue the stars. The universe is going dark, and it’s up to you, Konki the Stellar Guardian, to set things right. Dr. Dark Matter and his roving band of space thieves have stolen many of the Constellation Stones that make up the heavens. It’s time to suit up, power up, recover the Stones and once again bring light to the night sky. Using the Wii Remote controller’s unique pointer capabilities, simply point and thrust Konki through 20 dangerous time- and collection-based missions in the harshest of environments. Navigate through narrow, mazelike astral caves riddled with space worms, steam pipes and mining drills. Explore vast space stations while avoiding turret fire, mines and huge crushing gears. Weave through cluttered asteroid fields and gaseous planetary rings. Evade the hazards, pick up precious items and ship upgrades, and save the Constellation Stones before the night sky is lost forever.

And your Virtual Console title is Life Force from the original Nintendo.

Life Force (NES, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone – Mild Fantasy Violence, 500 Wii Points): This classic shooter, originally ported to the NES in August 1988, is a spin-off of the seminal Gradius series. Pilot the Vic Viper through six stages of intense action, alternating between horizontally and vertically scrolling environments, and take on wave after wave of enemies. Destroy particular enemies throughout the game (which takes place within the body of an enormous alien) to release power-up capsules and equip your ship with your choice of more powerful weapons, extra speed and shields. Utilize the power-ups carefully, though, as a fearsome guardian lurks at the end of each stage and won’t be easily defeated. You can go it alone or bring along a friend to take on the challenge simultaneously. Do you have what it takes to save your planet?
