Stop Complaining: The Resident Evil 5 Demo
Posted by Jason Large
Okay, I’ve read a few things over the last week or so that have really aggravated me. As you are already probably well aware, last week Capcom released a demo for Resident Evil 5 on the Xbox Marketplace (and PSN this week). Since that time, I have heard non-stop complaining about how dated the game feels and how disappointed everyone is by it. I honestly don’t understand what all the whining is about.

For the most part everyone seemed to regard Resident Evil 4 as both an innovative and generally great game, but somehow Resident Evil 5 is the worst thing many of you have ever seen (or at least that is the impression you are giving off).  Probably the most irritating of all comments are the ones that refer to the Resident Evil 5 demo as “broken”.  Really, broken?  Just because you may not care for the control scheme does not make a game broken.  Last time I checked that was the same control scheme of its critically acclaimed predecessor.  Anyone who considers the game broken can most likely be lumped into two categories.  Those people who are so desperate for attention that they are willing to throw out any theory or comment as long as it will tempt even a handful of people to take a look, and those people who are just good old fashioned stupid.  Two Worlds was a broken game, Resident Evil 5 is not.  Hell, I wouldn’t even call Haze a broken game (very bad, but not broken).

"Just because you may not care for the control scheme does not make a game broken."

Now I’ve always felt I was an objective guy.  With that being said, I can understand some of the gripes.  Yes, it would be nice if you could move and shoot at the same time, it would allow for better AI and it would make the game feel more realistic.  At the same time though, something like that should not be a deal breaker especially since it seemed to work just fine in Resident Evil 4.  So you can’t move and shoot at the same time; are you telling me that your gaming skills are so pathetic that you are actually incapable of shooting while remaining stationary?  Instead of whining about it why don’t you learn to use your environment to funnel enemies into narrow corridors or navigate them near exploding barrels.  There are plenty of ways to play the game that compensate for a lack of running and gunning.  As for the whole multicultural Africa…well yeah that doesn’t make a lot of sense, but honestly does it matter in the heat of combat?

"As for the whole multicultural Africa…well yeah that doesn’t make a lot of sense"

I’m not going to sit here and call the Resident Evil 5 demo the best thing ever, but it is far from as bad as so many are making it out to be.  I mean everyone’s different and not everybody likes the same type of game, but the overabundance of criticism is unnecessary.  If you don’t like the game don’t play it, but try to refrain from all the ridiculous comments and most importantly stop complaining.
